Poetry Kit 2009 from Houghton Mifflin

I received an email from Houghton Mifflin today informing me of the Poetry Kit 2009 it has available online. The kit has extension activities for a number of the children’s poetry books it published this year—including Joyce Sidman’s Red Sings from Treetops, Alice Schertle’s Button Up!, and Laura Salas’s Stampede!.

The kit includes a letter from poet Joyce Sidman, activity sheets, stickers, and a poem-a-day calendar. Here’s the link: Poetry Kit 2009

Catherine,

You won't be disappointed! Both Sidman's poems and the illustrations by Zagarenski are excellent.

I also can't wait to read Joyce's newest. She actually has a reading locally on Saturday, but I don't think I can attend. :>(

Laura,

I wish Joyce lived in the New England area. I would like to meet her--and to have an opportunity to talk with her about poetry.

This is so cool- thank you for the link! I have been so excited to read Sidman's latest. I just recently read This Is Just To Say: Poems of Apology and it was SO lovely. The pairing of Sidman and Zagarenski is genius. I've been awaiting Stampede and Stanza too! So fun to have added activities lined up for all of them when we do get to finally read them :)

Boni,

I love all of Sidman's poetry books! They have topnotch poetry for kids. Her new book will not disappoint. And I absolutely love Zagarenski's illustrations in RED SINGS FROM TREETOPS!

Boni,

P.S. I'm looking forward to getting a copy of STAMPEDE! I haven't read it yet.
