Time to Write the Poems!

Back in mid-March, one of my favorite bloggers, Robin Brande, decided she needed to take time off from blogging to focus her attention on writing books. Well, like Robin, I recently decided that it was time for me to focus more of my energies on writing new poems for publication and on polishing the poetry manuscripts I have written to date. I’m not going to be teaching my children’s literature course any longer...so I will be able to do just that.

At present, I am working on two new poetry collections--one I began writing last fall and one I just started writing in April. Both of these collections require me to do a lot of research and reading. It’s fun--but time-consuming. I still plan to blog--but working on my poetry will be my top priority for some time.

There are two special ladies I want to thank for their support and advice...and for encouraging me to write and submit my work to publishers.

Thank you, Janet Wong! Thank you, Grace Lin!

I for one would miss your lovely long posts, that never fail to impress, so I hope that everything else goes so smoothly that making time for blogging will be a snap!

Charlotte,

I'll still be blogging--but maybe not posting as often. I'm not sure yet. A lot will depend on how soon I finish work on my two current projects.

One of my problems is that writing is not as effortless for me as it is for some bloggers--so it takes me a long time to polish most of my long posts.

I'm hoping that the next blog post I read here will be in September, announcing that you've sold a manuscript, OK?

Or perhaps you can blog when you're stuck between Version 1 and 2 of a particular poem...and we can vote?

Go, Elaine!!

Your poems are awesome--they need to be in the world.

P.S. We'll wait for you. The good thing about blogging and this community is that you can always check in from time to time and we'll be reading.

Elaine,

I agree blogging can be very time consuming. I'm finding I spend more time thinking what to blog about than I do actually writing lately.

I love your blog, but I can't wait until you announce YOUR book. Maybe you'll let me interview you?

It must be a dream come true to have two such wonderful supporters.

May all your wishes come true.
Linda

Janet,

Grace and I went on our field trip on Thursday--and I got lots of inspiration. I've been working diligently on that manuscript that I started work on in April. Thanks for all your helpful advice.

Kelly,

I'm a sixty something! I feel I have to take my writing seriously at this point in my life. I love children's poetry--and hope to be a published children's poet one day.

Linda,

A writer has to have an inner passion--but it also helps to have people who support and advise you. I consider myself most fortunate to have friends like Grace and Janet. My husband, Mike, has always been here to encourage and support me, too.

You inspire me. I am looking forward to buying a copy of your poetry book and meeting you at the fall conference. Write away.

Elaine--You go!

I will miss your frequent posts, because I consider you such a wonderful guide through the world of children's poetry.

But...your poems are fantastic, and I'm glad you're clearing time to seriously work toward publication. You deserve that.

Good luck, and I can't wait to hear good publishing news from you!

Laura,

Thanks for all your good wishes! Your posts about your poetry-writing process and your poetry books helped me to realize it was time for me to really work seriously on my own poetry.
