I'm glad to know about the change in month for Children's Book Week. November is a bit rainy and dismal around here (Seattle), and it's harder to get enthusiastic about anything.

I remember hearing about the "Year of the Child" when I was a little girl (1979), and for a brief time was excited. I thoguht, "Finally, children will be respected and grownups will listen to what we have to say." I was 7, and it did not happen! I didn't know that it was supposed to draw attention to the bigger, basic survival problems in the world that children faced.

Alkelda,

When I was teaching, I felt November wasn't the best month to observe Children's Book Week. National Education Week also was scheduled for the same month. Teachers were usually busy with report cards and classroom art activities and other projects for Thanksgiving. I hope May will be a better month.
