Yesterday, a package arrived in the mail. It was an advance copy of
Things to Do--my first published book! I have waited a long, long time to hold a copy of it in my hands. It was such a wonderful experience--especially because my granddaughter Julia was with me when I opened the envelope. She sat beside me while I read it to her. I also read her the dedication:
For three special ladies who bring joy into my life--my daughter Sara, and her daughters Julia Anna and Allison Mary.
Here are some photos that I took of my book:
Now...I just have to wait until February 7, 2017 when my book will be released by Chronicle Books.

How very exciting! I can't wait to read it. The art is gorgeous and fun.
ReplyDeleteBrenda,
ReplyDeleteI was SO fortunate to have Catia Chien create the illustrations for my book. Her artwork is beautiful!
It looks beautiful...can't wait to read it, Elaine!
ReplyDeleteI'm beyond proud of you, Elaine. The poems are SO good, and mixed with that artwork. It's going to be a big hit!
ReplyDeleteMany congratulations, Elaine! This looks magnificent, a perfect marriage of author and illustrator. What a delight for your granddaughter to see you open your first book. That will get her dreaming in the best way! Much love....I can't wait for it. xo
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Elaine. It looks fabulous! And it was special to have your granddaughter with you when the package arrived. Can't wait to read it!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! What a great gift to share with your granddaughter. It looks amazing.
ReplyDeleteWonderful, Elaine! And what perfect timing, to have it arrive when Julia was with you - I bet she was tickled pink!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to get a copy of this!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Elaine! It's just beautiful. I look forward to reading.
ReplyDeleteExcited to read your book! Congrats to you!
ReplyDeleteThanks, everyone, for stopping by. It has been a long road from selling my manuscript in 2011 to holding the finished product in my hands. It took more than a year to find an artist to illustrate my book. My editor, Melissa Manlove, told me not to lose hope. She was right right. She found the perfect person to bring my poems to life. I couldn't be happier with the way my book turned out.

Amy,
As I recall, it was a long process before "Forest Has a Song"--your first book first--to be published. It's a beautiful book! I guess that it was worth the wait too!
I'm so happy to see your book, Elaine. I can't wait to read it! Congratulations! I'm sure this is just the first of many!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! And ummm... shouldn't there be some loudness in this post? ;) (Or is it just that I live in a regional location with no-one to hear my excitement outside immediate family, pets and wildlife...) Mayhaps Julia could add the sound effects.
ReplyDeleteKeep smiling.
Many, many congratulations! Your profile reads a little bit like my bucket list. What an amazing experience to open that package with your grandaughter. I hope I get to do that someday. I look forward to reading this book. Please let us know when you have launch parties or signings. Bravo....keep writing!
ReplyDeleteGORGEOUS!!! I can see that I'll need to order several gift copies of this!
