I'm sorry that I haven't been writing more book reviews for and posting links of book lists and resources lately at Wild Rose Reader. The Reason: Last spring and summer, I was really inspired to write poems. In fact, I wrote two entire collections of children's poetry. Then...a real dry spell hit. For several months, I lacked inspiration--except for a time during the presidential campaign last year when I wrote some campaign poems. Well, recently, I've been on a writing roll. I sit at my computer for hours and write poems--snarky verses about politicians, pundits, and other putrid people who irk, irritate, and enrage me. I post them at my other solo blog, Political Verses. I find that I HAVE to write when I have the inspiration. Sometimes I'm so absorbed by writing that I even forget to eat!
(Here's a link to the poem I posted yesterday at Political Verses: Journalistawocky: A Poem Inspired by Bill O'Reilly. It's a parody of Lewis Carroll's Jabberwocky.)
I DO have plans for National Poetry Month at Wild Rose Reader--but at this point I'm not positive I'll be posting every day. I hope you'll forgive me if I don't. I must listen to my Muse when she's hanging out with me. You see, she often leaves home for extended periods of time. She can't by reached by telephone or email when she's gone. And she never leaves a forwarding address!
This year, I will be giving away children's poetry books as prizes during April--just as I did in 2007 and 2008. Here are some of the books commenters at this blog could win next month:
And FALLING DOWN THE PAGE: A BOOK OF LIST POEMS edited by Georgia Heard.
(P.S. My poem Things to Do If You Are a Pencil is included in this anthology.)
FYI: You may want to check out this post--National Poetry Month - Super Secret Project REVEALED!--at The Miss Rumphius Effect. Tricia and other kidlit bloggers have some BIG plans for National Poetry Month.

Falling Down the Page looks marvelous and I can't wait to see your poem in it.
ReplyDeleteAnd oooh, what good prizes you have for Poetry Month! I'll be back to comment early and often for those...
Sara,
ReplyDeleteI think Georgia Heard did an excellent job in selecting poems for Falling Down the Page. I like the variety of voices and different types of list poems included in the anthology.
Oh, Elaine, I'm torn between saying "Of course you have to follow the Muse, wherever she leads!" And, "No! Get back here and post your children's poetry and write the wonderful posts that are a highlight of my blog reading!"
ReplyDeleteTo be supportive, I would say the former. To be selfish, I would say the latter. I'm stuck on the fence here:>)
I do miss your more frequent posts here, but you're writing poems about topics you're passionate about, so good for you!
I can't wait to read Falling Down the Page, and your poem in it!
Laura,
ReplyDeleteWell, I do have a batch of children's poetry books I hope to review for April--and have plans for some other poetry posts too. But doing the event planning for two reading council dinners, working on my high school class's 45th reunion--and trying to get everything together for our income tax returns have kept me busy of late. In addition, two respiratory infections laid me low for over a month and I really fell behind with my blogging plans for National Poetry Month.
I teach kindergarten but I have to admit that I don't do enough with poetry. Maybe you can help!!
ReplyDeleteMJ,
ReplyDeleteEmail me. I can send you a list of poetry books that are great for sharing with young children.

Actually, I was hoping to write up a post about poetry books for really young kids foduring the month of April.
Recommendation: The first anthology that comes to mind is HERE'S A LITTLE POEMS: A VERY FIRST BOOK OF POEMS. It's an outstanding book of poems compiled by Jane Yolen and Andrew Fusek Peters and illustrated by Polly Dunbar.
Just hooped over from Blue Ros girls and I can't wait to discover more children's poets and poetry books!
ReplyDeleteAndy,
ReplyDeleteGlad you're making a side visit here from BRG. Do stop by again.
