Being a nanny granny for two little ones is a lot more tiring than I had expected. Julia is four now—and Allison just turned one in early March. Sorry to say that I don’t have much time or energy for blogging these days. I have managed to carve out some time for writing poetry. In fact, I wrote three new collections this year. The first one I completed is a seasonal collection of mask poems told in the voices of plants and animals. The second one is also a collection of mask poems--told mostly in the voices of farm animals. The manuscript that I just finished last week is my second collection of “things to do” poems. This collection is about winter.

FYI: Things to Do, my first poetry/picture book,
won’t be published until February of 2017—not this coming October as originally
planned.

Here are some poems about April and Spring to start Poetry Month off:
And now spring settles in,
Pitches her green tent
Robins return, daffodils dance
In the garden, fruit trees explode with blossoms, as the sun
Lays her warm yellow hands over the earth.
Robins return, daffodils dance
In the garden, fruit trees explode with blossoms, as the sun
Lays her warm yellow hands over the earth.
Softly,
raindrops come to call. Can you
Hear
them gently tap-tapping
On
the
Windowpane,
on the roof with an
Even,
steady beat…
Repeating
the song that April loves to
Sing?
Patter
of April showers.
Up
go our umbrellas,
Down
go our booted feet…
Down
into shimmery
Liquid
looking glasses.
Everywhere
we go we’re
Splashing
in pools of fallen sky.
Soft, scented breezes,
kite-catching winds, the
Pitter patter of warm rain on the
Roof, daffodils and daisies and lilacs
In bloom, apple trees wearing snow-white crowns.
Now the sun lingers at the edge of day and
Green…lovely green…has come home to stay.
Pitter patter of warm rain on the
Roof, daffodils and daisies and lilacs
In bloom, apple trees wearing snow-white crowns.
Now the sun lingers at the edge of day and
Green…lovely green…has come home to stay.
TASTING THE SUN
Shower
in the April sun
Shower
in the light,
Streaming
down on yellow days.
Stand
out in the pouring rays.
Like
butter on a toasty bun,
Let
the sunlight melt and run
In
golden rivers on your skin.
Feel
it glowing deep within.
Feel
the touch of early spring,
Feel
the warmth that April brings.
Shower
in the pouring rays
Washing
winter cold away.

What a lovely, gently group of April poems. I like the way you find the "song that April sings." Sorry for the delay, but congratulations on your upcoming book.
Happy Poetry Month, Elaine! Your granddaughters are adorable (and so grown up)! Thanks for this beautiful bouquet of April poems. Can't wait for your book to come out :).
I actually copied your post and poems to put on our Poetry Month Bulletin Board. I've loved your fall acrostics and these spring ones are just as fun! Easy to see why you blog less, beautiful granddaughters.
Your acrostics are so beautiful. Not a word out of place, each perfectly painting the topic.
Doraine,
Thanks! We had temperatures in the seventies today--so it felt as if spring had arrived. But New England weather can be cruel. We are supposed to get snow on Sunday and Monday.
It will have been a long, drawn out process from the selling my manuscript to its eventual publication next February--more than six years!

Jama,
I can't wait for my book to be published. It has been a long wait--but I am so pleased with how the book turned out. I LOVE Catia Chien's illustrations. They add so much to the poetry. My granddaughters have brought great joy into my life. I love living next door to them.

Ramona,
Thanks. I love it when people use my poems. It's fun to share them on the Internet.

katswhiskers,
Thank you for your kind words. I wrote the poems that I posted today some time ago. I haven't written any acrostics lately.
I often wondered where you had gone to, especially since you wrote such great political commentary. Here it is another big election year--have you been "inspired" by the "circus" to return?
Diane,
I stopped writing for political/legal blogs last year. After the birth of my second grandchild, I found I didn't have the time I needed to devote to research and write articles any longer. This election cycle is truly a "circus"--and a bit scary!
How wonderful to hear your voice again! Glad to hear you've got a book coming out and a couple more that are in process! YAY you!
We had a crazy spring day today -- big winds brought through puffy clouds, purple rain clouds and then spits of SNOW!
Your poems are so Spring! Thanks for sharing them.
It's lovely to see you again. You've been so busy! I'm looking forward to reading your book.
Mary Lee,
I really miss blogging and Poetry Fridays. I'm hoping and can carve out a little more time for posting at Wild Rose Reader in the future. We got some snow this morning. That's spring in New England!

Violent,
Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

Liz,
The past few years have been busy indeed. I can't wait to get a hard copy of the book in my hands. It seems as if its publication day will never arrive! It's tough having to be so patient when its my first book.
Your grands are adorable. Your poetry is, too. Spring is a wonderful season for acrostics. So much to celebrate.
Oh, I needed these today. Such joy and gentleness of spring on a day with snow. Thank you! It is wonderful to have you back. Your granddaughters are adorable, and I can't wait for your book! I am glad you are still writing; I can wait for the books even though I miss you. xo
